A few details…
Mr. Smith has been a practicing GIS professional since 2016. Prior to joining TSSW, he completed a Masters of Science in Geographic Information Systems and Technology (MS-GIST) from the University of Arizona in 2015. He is also a licensed member of the State Bar of Arizona (currently on inactive status) and received his Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Arizona in 2010. He has credits in several published papers and books focusing on Sonoran Desert ecology, border infrastructure mapping, Tucson history, and Native American treaty rights.
As a Senior GIS Analyst & Programmer with TSSW, Mr. Smith has worked on a variety of projects. His legal training and prior experience with real estate and property law proved invaluable in the conversion of thousands of easements and rights-of-way during a complex multi-year digitization process for a state agency. He has also spearheaded the automation of complex workflows at TSSW using Python and ArcPy, worked on daily mapping projects, assisted with 911 modernization quality control, and researched and analyzed statewide address information as well as geocoding and locator research. Mr. Smith has a life-long love of maps and geography and brings that passion to a diverse variety of skills and interests in GIS. Mr. Smith also engages in volunteer GIS work outside of TSSW for a variety of local and national environmental and community aid organizations.
